Special Occasions Décor for the Room

One particular room along our corridor caught our attention when we passed by it the first few times. We couldn’t help but wonder why this particular room had a special decoration on their door. Then one day, we happened to walk by the room while it was being made up by the stateroom attendant. The room door was open and we peeped in.

Woah! Special pillow case and lovey-dovey decoration.

We later learned from the stateroom attendant that it’s a purchased Happy Anniversary Room Décor Deluxe Package, US$75.

Other than Romance Packages (also good for honeymoon), they also have a Birthday Package and other decorations and floral arrangements.

More details and purchase can be made at this official Royal Caribbean (“RC”) page for various packages. You can check with the agent for the decor packages when you book with them. You can also purchase during the cruise trip itself. :) Place your Gifts & Gear order through Room Service at the Guest Relations Desk, or dial “0”. Cake for the Celebration!

birthday cake

For those who love a cake and a song, do note in the reservation remarks whose birthday, anniversary or special celebration it is when making your cruise reservation. Don’t forget to also mention it for your dining reservations at the specialty restaurants.

If you want a whole cake to go along with your celebration, you can order a 6″ round special occasion cake during the trip (min. 6 hours advance notice) at US$7.95. Though there’s really no point, there are already so much food onboard!

A good alternative is to inform your head/Main Dining Room waiter about the special occasion and a group of waiters will sing a birthday / anniversary song, along with a slice of cake with candle. Though the cake is from the menu that evening, but that means It’s FOC! :)

IMO:

They really do try all means to sell you more stuff (or “experiences”, that they like to say) on the cruise. And they don’t come cheap.

This cruise was sort of our anniversary trip. And it would have been nice if they could have given us small complimentary niceties, like changing our pillows with special pillow cases. In the purchased package, I think the couple get to keep them, but for FOC ones, they could have simply reused them. It’s at of no extra cost to them, except the effort to clean and reuse.

Or there could be two glasses of champagne – welcome drinks, since they were giving free champagne at certain cruise events anyway.

Or something sweet.

It would have been nice with the extra touch, but people probably might abuse the system. Oh well, I’m just a cheapo. :P

Would you pay for the special add-on? :)
