… Could you share nice spot for tea? Going to Asia for tea trip.

For tea appreciation in Asia, I would think of Maokong in Taipei (Taiwan), or the various parts of China. In Singapore, the coffee culture is definitely stronger than the tea culture. There are more coffee drinkers than tea lovers. And one can easily find cafés selling quality coffee in Singapore.

Tea? Singaporeans, especially the ladies, are more into “afternoon tea” (sweets during mid-afternoon) or “high tea” (savoury in the late evening). Basically, a meal of many different nibbles and desserts in tiny portions — served ala carte or in buffet style, served with tea.

But I decided to come up with a list of tea rooms, that lean towards tea than the snacks they provide. So if you’re like the lady who is coming to Singapore to appreciate tea, or for the non-coffee drinkers who need a respite from the sightseeing and shopping, hope this list helps!

List not in order of popularity or preferences

1. Arteastiq Boutique Tea House

It’s a combination of art and tea here. This place is a great hangout for ladies to chit chat. Awesome ambience and decorative interior. Choose from a comprehensive artisanal tea selections. Would highly recommend you to sign up for an art jamming session here too! I enjoyed it despite not having a superb painting skill. Do check out their weekday promotions.

2. TWG Tea

TWG is a luxury tea brand which has tea salons in various parts of the world, especially in Asia. Offering over 800 of the world single estate teas and exclusive blends, you are spoilt for choice! You can choose to drink from the great selection in the shop or buy them back as gifts — loose teas, packaged teas, tea bags, iced teabags, haute couture tea collection, and others.

And if you like macarons, you should not leave without trying one here (p.s. earl grey chocolate seems like a favourite with many).

3. Tea Chapter

Traditional Chinese Tea Shop, dedicated to the education on Chinese Tea Appreciation. Their Grand Tea Master, Patrick Kang, has accumulated over 20 years of experience in Chinese Tea Art and Chinese Culture.

Tea Chapter conducts tea appreciation workshops for individuals, schools and corporations. For tourists on a short visit, you can consider signing up for this one hour session package. Or if you simply want to drink your tea, Tea Chapter’s ambience and fine oriental decor makes it the perfect place to seek solace.

Tea is sold in 14g packages. After the selection, the staff will brief you on the tea brewing techniques. There are also tea snacks such as tea eggs, lychee tea jelly, and oolong sweet potato steamed buns available.

4. Tian Fu Tea Room

Tian Fu Tea Room, by Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. This Chinese tea room is situated within each of its restaurants. The tea room carries a wide selection of over 30 types of premium Chinese tea, ranging from the common green and red tea to the more exotic yellow, white and flower tea.

Tea snacks like preserved dried olives and dried orange peel are available. You can shop online for their tea leaves and utensils. Otherwise, you can get their Imperial High Tea set at S$30 (2.30pm to 6:00 pm), which pairs 9 dim sum with 3 teas.

5. Yixing Xuan Teahouse

A popular dim sum haunt, Yixing Xuan is also a teahouse where you will find over 20 finest teas, all sold by the 100 grams. Check their website for its constantly changing spectra of teas. They also have frequent tea demonstrations workshops. The owner, Vincent Low, will also give personalised tea lessons if you’d like to know more about Chinese tea.

5. Hyde & Co [CLOSED]

An English café with average food offerings but value-for-money tea selection and quality. There are 45 tea blends — black, green, white, flavoured, fruit, rooibos and herb — all sold at a $6.50 / refillable pot. Some offerings include floral French Earl Grey, China Rose with fragrant cinnamon and Apple Chamomile of Christmas whiffs.

6. LookSee Looksee

A Reading Room & Tea Salon, the place features a reading room of titles curated by the top thought leaders across Singapore’s creative industries such as F&B, art and design. The concept is in partnership with local specialty tea company, A.muse Projects, who serves a selection of hot and cold blended teas.
